Pleasant Places, Inc. Celebrates 40 Years of Excellence as a Proud Family-Owned Business

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Pleasant Places, Inc., a milestone that celebrates decades of growth, hard work, and dedication.

Founded in 1984 by Guy Artigues, the company began as a small landscaping business built on grit, determination, and commitment to quality.

“It all started with grit,” said Guy Artigues, founder of Pleasant Places, Inc. “Back then, it was just about putting in the hours, building relationships, and letting the quality of the work speak for itself. That was my ‘business card’. I was determined to make Pleasant Places known for excellence.”

From its humble beginnings, Pleasant Places has grown into one of the Lowcountry’s leading landscape contractors, partnering on many of Charleston’s most iconic projects—from high-end residential communities to landmark commercial developments.

In a time when many family owned landscaping businesses are selling out to national chains and hedge funds, Pleasant Places remains proudly family-owned and operated, staying true to the values that built its reputation.

“We’ve stayed independently owned, and we believe that’s what sets us apart,” said Gilly Artigues, president of Pleasant Places. “Our clients know they’re getting personalized service, and they’re working with people who genuinely care about their projects and our community.”

“We’ve had the privilege of partnering with some of the best general contractors around,” Gilly added. “Those relationships, built on trust and shared success, are a big part of why we’ve been able to work on so many marquee projects.”

As Pleasant Places celebrates its past, the company is looking forward to its future under the leadership of Gilly and Palmer Artigues, chief operating officer. Both are focused on continuing the company’s legacy of excellence.

“We’re incredibly proud of what my dad built,” said Palmer Artigues. “His determination and vision laid the foundation for everything we do. Now, it’s about taking that legacy forward, innovating where we can, and ensuring that we’re delivering the same exceptional service for the next 40 years.”

Palmer added, “We’ve built a reputation for the quality of our work and the strength of our partnerships. Whether it’s a general contractor we’ve worked with for decades or a new client, the goal is the same—to exceed expectations. That’s what Pleasant Places is all about.”

As Pleasant Places, Inc. marks 40 years in business, the company expresses its gratitude to its clients, partners, and the entire Pleasant Places family. Here’s to the next 40 years of growth, grit, and family values that national chains just can’t match.
